How To Beat A Speeding Ticket | Speeding Ticket Prevention
68A Speeding Ticket Is No Fun
What can you think of anything more enjoyable than sitting in your car, on the side of the road, and having a big hefty fine being written with your name on it? Honestly, I sitting having a tooth pulled would probably rank as a higher on the fun scale than a speeding ticket. But they all start the same way; you being in your own world, you see the lights and pull over hoping that it isn't you, and then the officer walks over and asks you why they pulled you over. Man, isn't that just the icing on the cake?
Why is it that some places will pull you over for <5 over and sometimes 10> over? God forbid you to put a little extra weight on the pedal when a cop passes. Literally, I have been pulled over with the officer hoping to write a speeding ticket for 2 over the posted limit. Really? What kind of person has that bad of a day? Do they go home a kick what ever they first see, like a house plant or a poor cat. Anyway, I digress, so you would like some pointers on how to beat a speeding ticket, right? Honestly, I've dealt with many officers for different violations and I have had over an 80 percent sucess rate. Who wouldn't like that?
The number one was to stop anything is with prevention, which is common sense. But what about those times, you've been caught lead-footed? We will get to that in a few minutes, but prevention is literally make or break when it comes to a speeding ticket. Think of your grandparents or your parents or yourselfs if your elderly. I guarantee that, if like my grandparents, have some sort of radar detector. Not only does my granny have a little lead foot, but years ago she used to do quite a bit drivng. And guess what; she never has in over 15 years had a speeding ticket. Pretty cool, huh? Speeding granny has never had a speeding ticket thanks to marvels of a radar detector. They are just that by the way, a radar detector and they update every time a new radar gun comes on the market. Soon they will realize that using new frequencies and making new guns are not going to make them their bread and butter. It is cheaper to make a radar detector than a radar gun and the newer detectors have a plethera of cool features to get you out of that speeding ticket.
So what about this timeless scenerio; you are digging for you license and registration with the thought of how to beat a speeding ticket running through your mind. Just how you start the situation will greatly increase you chances of getting off with a warning. Just be polite, pull over out of the way but don't take longer than 2 minutes, and know what rights you and the officer have. You are trying to use your and their rights to your advantage as is he, but you trying will catch him off guard. As mentioned, an officer doesn't want to walk along a busy street, would you? Just giving him that curtiosy should help you out quite a bit in your quest to beating that speeding ticket. But, don't take longer than two mintues but do show the incentive to get off the road or he may claim that you are evading. And knowing your rights will and the officer's rights will be on your own. To type that much will give me major cramps in my fingers and probably wrist problems.
Now comes the part where he will come up to your window, ask why you're being pulled over, and according papers. Never ever, ever, ever admit fault or guilt, NEVER! If you do you have pretty much written your own speeding ticket. Remember that by what ever method you use, never admit fault or guilt, ever. What you will want to do now is to use anything you may think will work. Crack a joke, claim you were unaware that you were actually traveling at that high of a speed, or say something that you may have a problem with the mechanical linkage that measures your speed. Make up a good story like you hit a pretty good pot hole and now they speedometer jumps every five miles an hour. Something believable anything you can think of, but putting the officer in a better mood is a surefire way to get yourself out of that speeding ticket.
So, you used every common thing you can that of,but to no avail. Do not fret you still have many options to get out of that speeding ticket. The term fight is overly used, but it isn't always in court. You start fighting from the second you start driving your car until you have the fine resolved in what ever way. Let me say this now (better later than never) that you will not get out or win every single speeding ticket or violation. That's just life, you can't always be a winner but having 80 percent change of getting out is just next to it. The ticket could be any price, it just depends on local, state, and taxing that accounts for the price of the fine. Sometimes it does seem that they are gouged and they probably are with todays economy. Could get be to get some more local revenue to get the required nessecities. Anyway, the first thing you should do when you can ASAP is call the court house or local group that deals with traffic fines.
When you call be polite always, this works the best in almost any situation, trust me. First ask how much the ticket will cost, which might make your wallet shake when they tell you. Then ask what kind of options they have open to deal with the speeding ticket. This might be community service, traffic school, or some other means. Why you don't want to go straight to court is most times, a judge wants to hurry his day along and glances over meaningless traffic violations. On top of this you will not only have to pay your court costs but as well as the speeding ticket which will end up doubling your initial costs. Then you will have to add in the years of increased insurance premiums. All in all that is bad and costing me less money is always welcomed. When you get all you options availible, weight them and ponder for as long as you can. Should you go to court, enroll in traffic school, or something else?
Know I cannot predict how your local judge or officer will react, I don't know them. But I hope I given you a good game plan to help getting you out of a speeding ticket. I'm very polite and know my local judge as well as most officers. This almost always works in my favor over 80 percent of the time, and I hope it does for you. A speeding ticket is just something I really hate, and they soon inflate after your insurance company finds out about them. So in closing, keep your options open, look into preventive products, know you and your officer's rights, be curtious, and try your might to get out before court.

Welcome to Hubpages! Interesting first hub! Very good information. I got a ticket a while back, going around a curve, so my radar detector didn't go off in time. If you haven't taken defensive driving for a ticket within a year, you can take the class and the ticket doesn't go on your record. Thanks for writing. - Carol
